Connecticut channel WTNH-8 (ABC) report on the debate that is raging over the diagnosis and treatment of chronic Lyme disease. This report was aired in the wake of two new studies, one published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) denying the existence of chronic Lyme and claiming that longterm antibiotics are unwarranted, and the other published in the Journal Neurology yielding evidence that chronic Lyme is real and that extended courses of antibiotics are helpful. It should be noted that the study published in NEJM was nothing more than a retrospective review of previously published research which appears to be limited to just those studies that reinforced the authors’ long held ideology that chronic Lyme does not exist. A number of the NEJM authors are currently under investigation by CT Attorney General Richard Blumenthal for possible anti-competitive practices in the development of Lyme disease treatment guidelines published by the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA).

Sadly, while the insurance reform has some welcome improvements, like having to cover pre-existing conditions, you’re right that it did nothing to control costs, and in the end, just further enshrines the for-profit draculas that collect our insurance premiums and then do everything in their power to keep it for themselves. Talk about death panels.

Hey guys….PLEASE register at the Oprah Winfrey website and let her know how much you would like to see her do a show on Lyme disease. Dr. Oz thinks the “UNDER OUR SKIN” documentary is wonderful but a show about Lyme won’t be done unless she sees lots of interest. Request that LLMDS and patients be the guests so that we can be heard. Also, Daryl Hall would make a great guest. OPRAH needs to hear about YOUR experience with Lyme disease. Universal Healthcare is done in steps because Republicans operate a massive propaganda machine. If Barack just comes out for Universal Healthcare, they scream “SOCIALIST, COMMUNIST et cetera” and huge swaths of the public fall for it. Also, there are a large amount of people employed by the healthcare industry and what happens to all those people when you switch to single payer? You also have to overhaul the government and I’m sure it is much more complicated,but I’m for it.

If it’s possible to move to single payer in the near future, he’ll do it. I love Kucinich. Unfortunately, the media didn’t, probably because he posed too big a threat to the corporate order. But if you’re talking Obama versus McSame on health care, Obama may not be as big a change as we wish for, but he’s a major change over the failed policies of the last 8 years — policies that McSame pledges to continue.
