My son’s possible autism/Lyme disease connection
LymeOrNot asked:
This is a history of my son’s diseases for the medical professionals to make a clinical diagnosis. Was it Autism? Was it Lyme disease? Or was it something else?

Or ask “What will be the consequences if you treat me with Amoxicillin…”, since it’s equally efficacious as doxy according to Sam Donta. Which makes me wonder why they don’t simply use Amoxicillin as first choice since it doesn’t cross the BBB as much as doxy (may have repeated myself here).

Doxy prevents the growth of the bacteria and may trigger the immune system to realize home-grown invaders….
PML, MRSA, AIDS,…or even Denque Fever may be fatal. Before the end of the life, I would ask the doctor the same question I ask the president of IDSA – Dr. Donald Poretz, “What will be the consequences if you treat me with antibiotics (Doxycycline, Rocephin or Levaquin…etc.) and I do not have Lyme disease?” Would you?
I believe it may save many lives.

Doxy prevents the growth of bacteria, thus may induce more symptoms (Immune system realized the invaders).
PML, MRSA, AIDS,…or even Denque Fever may be fatal. Before the end of the life, I would ask the doctor the same question I ask the president of IDSA, “What will be the consequences if you treat me with antibiotics (Doxycycline, Rocephin or Levaquin) and I do not have Lyme disease?”
I believe it may save many lives (co-infected with Lyme disease).

When I switched to different antibiotics (Ampicillin), my ANA went down from 1:640 to 1:40 – thus, Lupus might still be part of Lyme treatment.
When I took antibiotics and suddenly felt better, I would assume that Lyme bacteria co-infected with virus…because antibiotics would not work with virus, allergy….etc.

Google…..”Low Dose Naltrexone Homepage.” And also here on You tube…”Controlling Lyme Disease,” and see the LDN videos by “TropicalDawg” here as well. I have been using LDN, for just over a week now, and feel the need to pass the buzz. This is a drug that helps with the immune system, inflammation and endorphins. Eat as if you had a yeast problem, because Lyme loves what yeast loves. And no sugars of any kind…”Including Fruit!”

Leaks in the blood brain barrier, which normally prevents harmful molecules from passing from blood into the brain, have been implicated in inducing seizures and epilepsy. However, it is unclear what mechanisms might lead to rupture of the blood brain barrier.
Paolo Fabene, of the University of Verona in Italy, and his colleagues now show that leukocytes, cells of the immune system that defend the body from bacteria and virus, might be responsible.

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a neurological disorder characterized by destruction of the myelin, ….It remains inactive in healthy individuals and causes disease only when the immune system has been severely weakened,
Like when under stress, or during surgeries, or when fighting other infections…all times when Lyme disease is reported to flare. So maybe it is not chronic Lyme, maybe not lupus, but PML. Hard to know.

Also, this just came out today, wonder if it might relate as well to those of us treated with doxy, etc.:
Feb. 19, 2009 — The FDA today issued a public health advisory about reports of a rare brain infection in people using the psoriasis drug Raptiva.
According to the FDA, there have been three confirmed and one possible case of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) in people taking Raptiva; three of those people died.

I have an article about President Bush’s Lyme disease treatment having been kept secret.

Furthermore, President Bush became “isolating himself from his cabinet”, “making sole decisions”……
Personality change was part of Lyme disease, from being “likable” to “?”….then Mrs. Bush had melanoma? what an coincidence?

If you google “Lyme disease, President Bush”, you may find many articles….
I read one article stating “a LLMD received phone calls from the white house and stayed on the phone for few hours….”
If his doctors did not call the director of CDC, or the president of IDSA – Dr. Donald Poretz, I would guess that his symptoms stayed or came back after 2-4 weeks of Doxy, or even 30 days of Rocephin IV….:-)

My experiences of getting rid of the numbness: slowly move the joints of toes, ankles, wrists, arms…..before getting up….
It’s Tai Chi or Gigong movements to pass oxygen around….

Agreed, without a doubt stress exascerbates symptoms. Similarly, sleep, even a very short 10-15 minute nap, increases the numbness in all four limbs at times.

Bush’s Lyme disease treatment has been kept a secret. Why would that be? He had a colonoscopy available for the whole world to see, but his Lyme treatment remains a mystery.

As I learned that doctors of President Bush had to call around for hours to find out Lyme disease treatments, we knew that “NO ONE” really knew how to cure Lyme disease.
So, the important thing is to listen to your own instinct. There are chronic Lyme patients. “The Joy Luck Club” author Amy Tan had the best doctors she could afford, and still was not cure after 7 years…
My suggestion: like cancer patient, “once a patient, watch out for the rest of your life…”

I have tried many alternative treatments and remained “functioning”; however, the symptoms always came back or got worse with stress or hormone change.
Unfortunately, with “LIVING” bacteria/parasites (co-infections), “killing” or “stopping the growth” had to be PARTS of the solution. My recovery (2) will detail the combination, balancing among the brain (CNS), immune system and the body. One of the solution is doing nothing, with “less stress”…Please hang in there…

One last thought is that your posts (Lymeornot) appear pro-pharma. So many of these Lyme videos, on closer examination, are quite similar. They’re all pro-pharma. As though selling the antibiotics. Not saying you’re doing that, but given the context, it’s impossible not to wonder what or who is behind these videos. I attended an MS meeting and same thing–run by pro-pharma people selling drugs. To MS patients. It was sickening because it was listed in the newspaper as an MS support group.

My comments here are critical of pharma/antibiotics, in part due to my being diagnosed ideally and treated immediately, re-treated, but yet still symptomatic almost 7 years later (although never was treated with the profoundly expensive IV ceftriaxone). So I’m suspicious of the pharam angle here. However, reading the wikipedia page on Lymes (granted wiki is not all that reliable), it has contradicting info. Specifically, referring to chronic Lyme and then saying there is no chronic Lyme.

I am not a medical professional, so I can not judge the effectiveness of each one. From my experiences, each antibiotics treated the different area…plus, according to CDC, Lyme spirochette may cross BBB within days to weeks…
which meant that the bacteria could continue to cross, or change into different forms…

My son had vitamin D deficiency during Lyme disease treatment.

According to Sam Donta, a leading Lyme researcher, Amoxicillin is equally efficacious as doxy in treating Lyme. Why go with the more severe doxy crossing BBB, especially in early stages when Lyme spirochette most likely has yet (if ever) to cross the BBB?
October 11th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
Nancy
A 2007 medical journal report (NEJM?–have to get it from my site) shows a direct correlation between the severity of MS and compromising (crossing) of the BBB. Pharamaceutical breakdown of the BBB could very well be a cause of neurological disease. A news article today equates MS with geography/Vitamin D deficiency. But I’d go with the former for making the most sense.

I had symptoms of Lyme disease over 20 years, diagnosed and treated in March, 2004. I think my secret of heading towards complete recovery is the learning of antibiotics…
Doxy is broad sprectrum antibiotics and working by “PREVENTING” the growth of the Lyme bacteria. Lyme bacteria will turn into many forms to hide from immune system, especially CWD(cell wall deficient) form. I think it will induce the symptoms of Lupus, not Lupus…:-) Use others ( Ampicillin, Keflex…)may work…Good luck

According to CDC, Doxycycline 100mg x2 is the drug of choice for treatment of all TBRD (Tickborne rickettsial diseases are a set of distinct diseases with similar signs and symptoms that are transmitted to humans by tick bites, such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Ehrlichiosis, Anaplasmosis/HGA/HGE…etc) in children and adults.
For initial treatment, Doxy seems to serve as “one stone for many birds”…, especially for co-infections.:-)

You may google “Lyme induced autism” and read more stories….
Thanks. My son is “functioning” in college…
