Amy Tan and Dr. Stricker Interview

Lyme Disease
Hosted by ABC7’s Cheryl Jennings

Each Beyond the Headlines show focuses on a different topic affecting the people who make up the fabric of the Bay Area. What do you know about the disease that you could get from a tick bite? It’s called Lyme Disease.

At first, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control only reported about 30,000 cases a year. But, new studies reveal the numbers could be far higher… as many as 300,000 a year. Now, the CDC estimates that number could be as high as a million cases a year!

Erica’s Fight Against Chronic Lyme Disease

Intense story that many will relate to. None of these alternative treatments are covered by insurance and at some point we run out of money and get kicked to the curb by our doctors, insurance companies and in most cases family and friends give up too. Paul is a rare husband who is sticking by his wife. They try antibiotics, glutathione, ozone blood therapy – she still experiences adrenal failure – basically the immune system shuts down and you are forced to build it back up which can’t begin until the disease is eradicated or at least pushed back to a tolerable “load”.

Justin & Christa Vanderham

This is a movie about our 5 years of fighting for our life, countless treatments, and the roller coaster Lyme can put you on. Christa fought for her life and we are still here to tell the tale!

NOTE FROM JENNA: The toxin binding powder discussed towards the end of the video is Cholestyramine. This is especially good for ridding the intestines of toxins that would otherwise recirculate.

Heather Needs Our Help – Now It’s Too Late

Updated August 1, 2014 with sorrow Soon after I published this, Heather Askeland took her own life due to her desperate physical and financial situation. Instead of removing the video, I felt that Heather’s death could potentially help someone suffering with these issues. Suicide is not the answer. However for some, it appears to be the only path out of misery and pain…these poor souls deserve our compassion. Shame on the medical community and insurance companies that put so many people in this horrible situation. Published on Apr 10, 2014 by Heather Askeland “I am desperately ill with Lyme disease, am homeless and have no family willing to help. This is, unfortunately, a life or death situation. I need an angel to come forward and help me save my life. PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY. please.” For more info about who I am, google “Heather Askeland poetry.” My previous youtube channel is “heiwalove,” which has my Lyme story on it (recorded when I was doing much better). Heather was asking for an angel…she is with the angels now.

Borrelia Infections — diagnosis and treatment – Joseph J. Burrascano Jr. MD

This is a full presentation lasting almost one hour – filmed in May 2012.
Joseph J. Burrascano Jr. MD is a well recognized specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme and associated complex infectious diseases, and the chronic illnesses that accompany them. With over two decades of experience and research in this field, he has appeared in and on virtually every form of media, has advised the CDC and NIH, testified before the US Senate, an armed services joint subcommittee, and at various governor’s councils. A founding member of ILADS, he currently is an active Board Member of the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Educational Foundation. His current areas of interest include his ongoing project, ?The Lyme and Associated Diseases RegistryTM which follows each selected patient from the beginning to the end of their illness, to try to divine out what the various symptoms mean, which tests are worthwhile, to identify the medications and treatments that have the highest likelihood of curing the illness, and to uncover any possible drawbacks to treatment. In addition, he is actively involved in study of the newly discovered retrovirus, HGV, thought to be associated with chronic neuroimmune diseases, including chronic Lyme. Finally, his lifelong interest in nutrition has come to bear with his present consultative work with various nutritional supplement suppliers. No longer in clinical practice, Dr. Burrascano works full time in the biotech arena to further medical research in tick-borne and related diseases.
